Untrained Should Not Recommend Alternative Therapies

MLM – the death knell for natural health?

As is the norm with my words, I do not expect this article to make me any friends. But I do at least hope it will educate a few people. This article is not telling you that you cannot grow a global business if that is your goal. This is not about the argument that in order for one distributor to do well financially and succeed it will take hundreds, if not thousands of hapless minions to do the hard work. This is about health modalities themselves. If you do not know what a modality is, you really are in the wrong line of work – it should be one of the first words you learn as a distributor but the fact it is omitted, rings alarm bells.

Image result for MLM

a) Are you a MLM distributor, representative, executive, diamond, or whatever your chosen company decides to label you – of any manner of health or euphemistically named ‘wellness‘ product companies?

b) Are you the customer of a MLM distributor?

If you answered yes to either question, a) do you have qualifications other than human rights, to qualify you to promote or sell that product? If yes, is your field of knowledge actually within the area of everything you are promoting? Have you studied every product in detail, including benefits, possible side effects, contraindications and whether it could pose dangers in regards to allergies or compatibility with other medications? If not, why not?

And b) do you take your distributor’s word as professional? Have you asked them if they have qualifications in what they are flogging you? If not, why not?

Do you now that if/when it goes awry (and it does very, very often) not only will you not get your money back (despite claims to the contrary) but you will not have a legal leg to stand on? There are no guarantees. The company will not want to know you.

I can already hear the responses

‘We do not diagnose or prescribe.’

‘We do not make health claims.’

‘Our products are professionally made in the best laboratories in the world. We are industry leaders that other companies follow. Our research shows…’

Save it. I have heard it all

The truth is, people at the top are paid to come up with words (ie spindoctors) that you will learn in ‘training’ to ensure you know the fancy footwork to evade vital and important questions. I know of people who have become deathly ill from a ‘wellness’ product that almost claimed their life. When they complained, the company would not return the money. They refused to take responsibility and blamed the individual – saying they were self abusive and unhealthy to begin with, even though this person lived a very healthy life – and had not become unwell until they suffered a reaction to the product. Sadly working in my own field, I have witnessed such a story too many times.

The long and short of this is if you are not qualified in a modality, you have no right to spruik it. Take essential oils – to become an aromatherapist (originally part of a larger qualification – an elective which could take 6 months on top of all of your other studies including botanical pharmacology, anatomy and physiology, and massage at the very least) it takes dedicated study and an understanding of health that would allow you to understand a little more than, ‘this oil is magic for stress…’

What about the increasing number of dietary and nutrition MLM companies? It’s a daily brain-scream for me to read on social media and in advertising pages that someone is proudly a local representative of such-and-such weightloss program. To say that clinically, 100% of patients visiting me for weightloss had been through it all, and often become seriously unwell as a result, would be an understatement.  The claims are alarming. If I dare to so much as say something valid such as, “Does this diet take overall health into account?” watch the knives come out (pun NOT intended).

And then we get to the supplements. I have personally been present at ‘product training’ where I would sit through 2 hours of absolute drivel – appalling claims and stories that made my hair stand on end. All the oohs and aahs about making a zillion dollars. Or heart warming stories of rags to riches. Yet as a guest I would get up to at least try and educate them on safety, ingredients and quality control. Forget it. At one memorable event, even though I had the microphone, I was drowned out with moans and comments like, “Do we really have to hear this? We did not come for this.” No, you came for the rah-rah, “here’s your goody bag, give me your prospects and I will ensure they sign up so you will make more money.”

About now, you are wondering why I am so angry at the whole MLM notion. Don’t worry, chances are I have been part of your particular company in some way – as a writer, researcher, customer or even a distributor at some time. Beginning before I was qualified in any form of health care – and eventually to prove the efficacy or value of the product in comparison to what else is out there. Yes, many natural health professionals do get into MLM products but that is as much because of the unhealthy system forcing them to make money from a sideline as it is about any perceivable product quality.

In short, MLM companies cut out the middle man

You are told that shops are the middle man. That is just not true. The middle man in this area is the natural health professional. Imagine signing to a MLM company that sold pharmaceutical products only. The middle man would be the doctor, no? In the time that MLM have made their hostile takeover, pharmacy chains have not only taken over in stocking natural products – without qualification – but have access to products that not even qualified natural health professionals do.

In that same time, doctors have been invited to take part in weekend warrior workshops which affords them the title of holistic or alternative doctor. Rather than, as a number of my peers have done, walk away from the medical industry which has failed so many, they continue to fence sit – but benefit from both sides. As one pharmacy chain head said to me, ‘This is where the money is.” They are also privy to more health fund support and even medicare benefits for their services while the real professionals are not. Cha-ching.

Are you complicit in destroying the very industry you now promote?

You would not know about the other side of this coin – the negative effects. Because it is covered up. Some of you do it to earn a living. Others do it to increase their revenue. I have had executives of certain companies threaten me professionally. I still have copies of letters written to me – one actually telling me I know nothing and need to mature in order to understand things.  One company which shall remain nameless, sent a distributor to threaten me with court action because I dared to answer her honestly when she asked if I would like to take part in her next presentation. I advised her that the products were tested on animals and not of particularly high quality. She refused to hear that just because her company didn’t test at their facility, did not mean the products were not tested elsewhere – and the company paid for it. Or that the products contained toxic ingredients on top of their supposed organic, healthy ones. I simply provided her with paperwork proving my claims and was left alone. At any given time, CEOs and leaders of these companies are in court or jail. This is kept from you. This is just one aspect of MLM marketing. People fall in love with the theory – hang everything else.

Image result for destroying natural health

In the last 10 years, natural health has been watered down as it is integrated into modern medicine – not for any other reason than control. So much knowledge is being lost. Natural health experts do not get financial support and as such, 2/3 no longer even operate – between pharmacies, supermarkets, MLM distributors and doctors, vital knowledge is being stolen and lost. If it continues at this rate, it is estimated that by 2025, natural health will be outlawed – and MLM distributors will not care about the original experts – they will just scream about how unfair it all is. Offficially it is about supposed safety – in truth, it is about money. Natural medicines cannot be patented unless they are diluted with pharmaceuticals. Cha-ching.

But back to the real reason for this article. Every day – every single day – I am contacted by people asking for my help professionally. This has now gone on for over 3 decades. It involves sick people from various MLM companies asking me which of the supplements or oils or products they should take – from their line of course. Their ailments range from basic issues to life threatening. I have seen people end up in ER – even in intensive care – because there was no safety net within the company they dedicated and almost lost their lives to; because aside from the token expert everyone quotes like a bad case of Chinese Whispers, there is no expert advice at close hand, nor is it a prerequisite.

Seriously, it is simple

a) If you want to promote products that is your right but for goodness sake, get educated! In this day of accessibility, there is no excuse for ignorance. Look up ingredients and study them. Or go one better and study the modality – yes, there it is again. Modality means modal quality – and in health, that means the particular field of health care. So herbal medicine, homeopathy, aromatherapy, orthomolecular medicine. All of these will – or should – include learning about health in general and how safe your products are alongside others.

Did you know that many oils are not ingestible?

Did you know that many calming supplements can not be used alongside pharmaceuticals?

Did you know some herbals can aggravate symptoms of chronic illness?

b) If you are going to use or have natural health products recommended, get professional advice. Or become a professional yourself.

Even Natural Health is Owned by Pharma

728 x 90

Natural health is also controlled by Big Pharma.

“How?” I hear you say.

To answer this, we need to go back to the start. In the beginning, ALL medicine was natural. There was no alternative medicine. Without getting too technical, herbal, traditional, native, bush, acupuncture, ayurvedic, even energetic and surgery – all had their beginnings from the earliest recorded times. Whether you subscribe to paleo theories or Creationism, medicine in the beginning was natural and according to both geography and natural resources.

Western medicine, which likes to claim their roots in Hippocrates (c. 460 – c. 370 BCE), did not arrive until centuries later. In fact, much of what we now know in health care began in places never given credit – India, China, Italy, Greece, the Arab Empire, Israel and Africa.

While western formal medical schools were not established until the 16th century, there were medical schools in many nations, with archeological finds proving the earliest surgeries were in place thousands of years ago. All based around natural medicine.

During the Renaissance period, the European and English began to translate and dominate the works written in Arabic and Greek, centuries previously. Much later the same began to emerge with Indian and Chinese works.

7

As these ‘developments’ happened, the expert roles also began to change. Originally tribal and predominantly female, the Catholic church began to channel knowledge via nuns and elite women in general. However, it soon became a religious issue as Protestant leaders removed women from these roles – paving the way for wealthy men to control the future of medicine; not only lining their pockets but inextricably linked to government and finance/industry.

Modern medicine as it grew, was for the elite and wealthy – while natural health knowledge was passed down through generations. This was frowned upon by the church and rather than allow valuable knowledge to be taught informally, all things natural were declared to be witchcraft (16th/17th centuries). What better way to destroy valuable knowledge than by ‘proving’ theories which were impossible to pass – especially when they ended in death either way.

tissue_states_wheel2

By the 19th century, modern medicine was a male-dominated, elitist and very political industry. Pharmacy had moved from depending upon man-power to collect resources, to synthesising new medicines in laboratories. While this was a direct alternative to traditional medicine, careful propaganda and manipulation of wording had begun. Words such as traditional and alternative had reversed roles; the former now meaning orthodox medicine, while the latter meant anything which no longer fell under the umbrella of science – and usually a euphemism for others such as charlatanism, snake oil, quackery, fraud, etc. Eventually even the word preventive/preventative was mongrelised to mean a wishy-washy realm of modern medicine which of course was centred around pharmacy –

Between the 1830s and the 1860s, laboratory research gave rise to the germ theory; if it were not for political power and money, the more favourable terrain theory would still govern medicine today. By the late 1800s, the vaccine industry had begun – fraught with horrors and a mounting pile of fatalities, this industry, along with synthetic medications accompanied by horrific side effects gave rise to the new arena of medical spin and propaganda.

images-19

Loss of manpower during the great wars meant more than ever, synthetic medications were easier and cheaper to formulate and manufacture. Pharmacists were among the new elite, receiving immunity from the war effort, in order to keep the burgeoning new industry steaming forward.

Along with the new industry came as much effort to destroy historic medicines. Even the more safe and efficacious were painted as dangerous and ineffective. Many were outlawed, while many more continued to be synthesised into medications.

In the 21st century, while no one can argue that there are many benefits in modern medicine, the locomotive has such steam that it no longer seems to matter what works, what doesn’t; what is safe or what is life-endangering – so long as it makes money.

And here we are – in the new century, with more disease than ever before, more sickness than ever before, more obesity than ever before – worst of all, more drug dependency than ever before in history. The effort to put the final nails into the perceived coffin of natural medicine has never been so pronounced.

People who enter medicine or even pharmacy for the right reasons seem to not notice or nor care that their future is now controlled by pharma. Gone are the days of the kindly country physician who takes care of everything; today, a 5-minute consultation is little more than a push for the latest product being flogged by the pharma rep.

It no longer matters why you have gone to see your doctor; if you have not been given another vaccine for an unrelated issue, or at least one new pharmaceutical wonder product  you just may find you did not see a GP/MD at all. In fact, you have just seen either a natural health professional or an integrative professional – one who places their career and even life at risk simply by practising with integrity.

So how does big pharma own or control natural medicine? Some of these facts may alarm you. At the very least they SHOULD.

  • blood pressure taking to determine whether you need antihypertensives
  • BSL readings to determine the amount of insulin required
  • Blood tests and various analyses to determine which medications are required
  • Administration of such medications as aspirin to ‘prevent’ one symptom set (ie stroke) while paving the way for many more to develop
  • Medically-prescribed (usually synthetic) supplementation which also resulted in myriad side effects
  • Being tied in with various industries for mutual benefit – for example, encouraging people to drink milk for health so they can clean up thanks to the effects
  • Poor dietary advice – again, linking in with various industries; the end result of which is mutually beneficial
  • Vaccination – while extensive research has shown benefits are minimal, and side effects extensive, this ‘prevention’ of disease (most of which are not even contagious) has spawned an entirely new and permanent dependence upon the medical industry.
    • The most popular IBS ‘natural’ product (Iberogast), being packaged and promoted as a natural health product is in fact made by pharmaceutical company Bayer – also known as the company that recently purchased Monsanto (RoundUp) – the company that has surreptitiously been buying up the world’s seeds while killing off all plants that are not RoundUp Ready. Just one of the seemingly endless list of glyphosate side effects is the destruction of the digestive system as it is now found in many foods.
      • The CDC & WHO are headed by a committee made up of big pharma leaders.
      • The EU is funded by big pharma.
      • Since the PAN ‘crisis’ where big pharma set up a well-orchestrated hostile takeover which no one could foresee or even fight, big pharma has taken over or bought out most natural health manufacturing companies. While this takeover took place in Australia, it was also happening simultaneously overseas.
      • The plan has always been to destroy the natural health industry. And it is government-sanctioned.
      • As mainstream media is pharma-owned, it is rare for the truth in natural health care to reach the masses.
      • Medical schools are funded by big pharma so it is no longer about evidence or research – it is more about who is paying. From day one students are brainwashed. By the time they graduate they are already experts in pharmaceutical products and usually have their own ‘favourites’. An expose failed to shake up the world or bring about any changes.
      • As universities take over natural therapy courses, knowledge is watered down while medical experts control both the governing bodies and the courses themselves.
      • Doctors and allied health professionals are now able to do weekend warrior short courses which allow them to practice natural therapies. As they can claim on health funds and medicare as ‘medical natural health professionals’ they continue to put the real experts out of practice simply due to affordability.
      • As more and more medical professionals enter the natural health realm, rather than join forces with established natural health professionals, they are forming new Integrative bodies which prohibit natural health professionals from joining in a professional capacity. Meanwhile, these same Integrative health professionals are in turn targeted by medical and legal bodies in order to shut them down. Online amateur investigators (colloquially termed trolls) are paid to expose and discredit anyone perceived to be threatening big pharma.
      • Analysis of many pharmaceutically-owned natural health products proves that they are not only often synthetic but contain toxic products. So what do we do about it? Not a lot, if recent efforts are to be considered. While most established, experienced natural health professionals are forced out of practice, newer keen graduates are blissfully unaware of what is happening. Indeed, doctors and allied health professionals who have an interest in natural health are most likely unaware. The rest do not care.
        • As natural health/Integrative/holistic whistleblowers expose the corruption within the pharmaceutical industry their careers are destroyed. Rather than put an end to pharmaceutical corruption, dozens have died mysteriously in more recent years.

Effective, affordable alternatives to popular MLM health products delivered to your door.

Organic Products - From Baby to Beauty

As a health practitioner, I have always sought out the best, premium quality products for my patients – BUT they had to be effective, ethical, vegan, pure/organic and above all, affordable. And they need to be on par with the best Practitioner Only products on the market, and be backed by believable research. At the top of this, MUST be fully trained health professionals.

As such, I have been involved with a number of MLM companies – writing, lecturing and teaching – with the view of sourcing affordable products and eventually assisting my ‘downline’ in getting their products for free. This is the promise; in reality, it rarely happens. You can sign up as many people as you like – unless they order the bare minimum required monthly, you will not do much more than maybe get a few dollars in credits per month.

Take my own case – at one stage I had a team of around 3 dozen under me and in turn, they had their own downlines – in a good month, at best, I ‘earned’ around $50 per week – a fraction of what it cost me to take part in this charade. The theory is that they each order $150 worth of product a month – nice if you can afford it. Okay, so yes, we may spend that per month on personal care or supplements. But what if we don’t? What of those who simply do not have a spare $150? That is the plight of most people who desperately sign with MLM companies after some keen distributor gives them the spiel.

I have known people to sell valuables in order to set themselves up with a Distributor Kit, not to mention the cost of babysitters and attending weekly meetings – passing them off as ‘training’ workshops; in reality, they are nothing more than money-making events for the upper-level achievers. Remember, these are usually laypeople who know nothing about health – no background in anatomy/physiology/biochemistry/natural nutrition – all training they receive is via other untrained distributors who have been told by their own uplines – or at best, watched a training DVD…

Yes, I know many people who drive luxury cars thanks to some of these companies – but at what cost? To get to that level, you would need at least a dozen high achievers under you, who in turn have a dozen high achievers under them. AND they must all be buying that minimum (and then some) every month while still signing others. So, what are these high achievers? Usually professional types (although a FEW do break the mould) who have a few hundred signed under them – those who struggle to do the monthly order, and never move any further. They drop out of sight eventually, while the high flyer keeps signing up more hapless folk.

SO many claims are made – while they say publicly, they are not promising anything. But as a practitioner, and someone who worked in research, this is where I came unstuck. If you do not believe what I am saying here, do this simple test. Contact the head office of ANY MLM company and ask for a complete ingredient list, along with a list of sources – so where is each ingredient sourced –

  • Certified proof that none of their ingredient suppliers test on animals
  • Proof that they do not test on animals or pay other companies to (most do)
  • Is unethical palm oil used? (Most palm oil is not ethical)
  • Is slavery used at any stage?
  • Are petrochemicals used in any products?

The sad truth is, most companies base their image upon one or two of the above. So, some companies even claim THEY discovered the toxicity of petrochemicals. Some even claim THEY conducted the research at their state-of-the-art facilities. Some boast of (pretty feeble) charity efforts. But I am yet to see ONE company that can say 100% that no animal testing occurs with supply companies, with their company or out-sourcing. They are unable to say that all palm oil used is ethical. They are unable to say, when it comes to slavery, anything other than ‘as far as we know’. While the main petrochemicals are not used, others are. All the while, they are condemning other companies like rabid judge/jury/executioner.

I no longer practice conventionally, but continue working on my global health coaching network to help people find the best individual health care options for their own family’s needs. After much research and more than a few ongoing issues which remain unanswered (including the use of ingredients sourced from unethical companies, and poor follow up customer service, as well as outright dishonesty and evading answering direct questions) I no longer find the former companies to be quite what they like to promote themselves to be.

So I set out to find a company that could do this. And thankfully I found one and no, it is NOT a MLM company. For the countries it does not ship to, I found another similar company, which I will do a post on shortly.

The good news is that these companies have many benefits that neither of the companies I was involved with did –

1. They ship to almost every country globally.

2. Shipping fees are a fraction of the price my former companies charge – even free.

3. Tens of thousands of products.

4. Thousands of vegan products with no history of animal testing or fake ethics.

5. Thousands of brands.

6. Rewards program (similar to an affiliate program).

7. ZERO demand for monthly orders, nor can other ‘members’ make money from your efforts.

8. Order what you want, when you want.

9. Discounts and bonuses on all first orders if you give the code of a member – my code should turn up in your checkout if you order via my main page, however if it does not, please input LSH273 otherwise you will miss out on a further 10% discount.

10. Thousands of discounts and specials/clearance items.

11. Thousands of trial purchase products for even better prices.

12. Every item guaranteed cheapest for comparable product and quality.

13. Not restricted to a few health products, cleaning, personal care and cosmetics – includes –

  • supplements
  • herbs
  • homœopathy
  • bath/beauty
  • skincare
  • healthy grocery (including gluten free and vegan)
  • kids and babies
  • sports products
  • pet products
  • links to studies and research

No other company is so extensive or inclusive. And no one compares in prices. Please feel free to do your own research on the site, but if you need help finding your own preferred products, let me know and I will work it out. The following is an extensive list of alternatives to the more popular products that health-focused MLM companies promote. For those not listed, feel free to research as iHerb will have more than one options available. Or ask and I will find the equivalent of what you need. I have no financial investment in this company – other than – like any professional would expect (far more, in fact), I do receive a very minor reward for sharing – however, nothing like I would expect if I stocked products on my own shelves and shipped them out.

Remember, all products are around half price, some even less…and yes, just as effective.

Every product listed above contains at least the equivalent of the original products recommended – but most contain far more ingredients, as well as being in larger quantities – as well as quality and efficacy with irrefutable reviews and testimonies. It is simply not true that these MLM companies have the best or only option in any of these products. iHerb also stocks the equivalent of every other product that can be found on their pages.

A number of MLM companies like to say their products are the only one of their kind, or the best available – in fact so good that other companies beg to buy their products. These claims are simply not true. And as a health care professional, I have a real issue with untrained fanatics misleading the public. I have lost count of the number of times I have seen people make unfounded claims – many in dangerous situations and with life threatening illness. Many have become adept at cutting and pasting the research and advice of people like me in order to flog product (one ‘executive’ used to send her downline members to my clinic for discount appointments just to find out what products they needed – guess who got the huge bonuses?). It’s something that does not sit comfortably with me and is very influential in the destruction of the natural health profession.

Changes to this site – including recommendations

Many changes are afoot for this page. A full name change is necessary since the recent interest in not just the name Chrysalis Health but Chrysalis Integrated/Integrative, Chrysalis Homoeopathics, Chrysalis Naturals and so on. For a word that was nowhere to be found when I began, it is now one of the most used/misused words in natural health care. Some I am fine with as they are truly noble groups but seeing others not only use my name but imagery, even my work, I need to distance myself. So if you notice the URL/domain changes, don’t panic.

Secondly, after a very disappointing turn of events, I am no longer involved with either Neways or Sisel. I have found a great company that not only provides comparable, better priced and ethical alternatives but all vegan, and am in the process of adding all the recommendations to his blog – along with a PDF with all necessary links.

Thanks for your patience!
